Teachers/Supervisors/Other Volunteers

Teachers

Supervisors with similar credentials are needed to work with advanced students on their final projects. While it is beneficial for teachers and supervisors to speak French or Haitian Creole, we have an interpreter available and are very used to classes and conversations being translated. As with the Episcopal University, our academic year generally runs from October through June, with a short summer session.    (Learn More/Apply Now)

Courses are generally three credits and involve 45 hours of classroom instruction.  When the school is operating on campus, this can be done in an intensive format teaching for two weeks, five hours a day, or three weeks, three hours a day.  As we are now fully online due to COVID19, professors are using Zoom on a schedule that works for them and for our students.

We have an intensive English language program and welcome native speakers with training in TOEFL who can commit significant time on campus and/or with distance teaching.

When we are on campus:  Room and board are available for a modest fee that depends on how long you will be at the school.  A staff member will meet you at the airport and accompany you back.  Transportation to and from the airport is generally $40 each way.

Volunteering in Other Ways:  Volunteers can be helpful to us in many ways.  Student interns in the U.S. can work with Education Haiti, our Maine-based non-profit, on social media outreach, event planning, language exchange and fund raising.  Our survival and sustainability depend on fundraising, and we are currently looking for additional Board members who can contribute and help to connect us with significant funding sources.

If you are interested in joining us, please contact Dean Phelps at miranda.phelps@ftsjs.edu.ht with a letter of introduction and a resume.  We will then arrange an interview using Zoom and explore what you would like to offer, “goodness of fit,” schedule possibilities, etc.
